Delete your account

You can leave John whenever you like.

In the app

1. Open John and go to your profile.
2. Tap Settings, then Delete my account.
3. Confirm. Your account is deleted straight away.

If you'd like a copy of your posts and messages first, use Settings > Download my data before you delete.

Without the app

Email hello@wearejohn.com from the email address you use for John, with the subject Delete my account. We'll check it's you, delete the account, and confirm by email within 30 days, usually much sooner.

What gets deleted

Your profiles, profile photos, posts (including private ones), stories, photos, videos, comments, likes, Me toos, messages and chats, check-ins, journeys, saved posts, settings and sign-in.

If either person in a one-to-one chat deletes their account, the whole chat is deleted for both. In a group, your own messages are deleted and the group carries on.

What we keep, and for how long

• Moderation decisions, with your name removed, for 6 years.
• The phone ID of a banned account, so the ban still works, for 3 years.
• Reports other members made, for 1 year after they're closed.

Backups of the database are overwritten after 7 days. The privacy policy has the full details.
